School Readiness
Preparing For ‘Big School’!
Singleton ELC gives your child the skills and confidence needed for a smooth transition to "big school". Our school readiness program focuses heavily on the school’s requirements, helping to make the journey a happy one for the child and the parent/care giver.
At Singleton ELC we have a holistic approach to school readiness programs with weekly focuses. Our program, which runs alongside school terms, includes weekly (fun) homework to help children become confident and create a routine in preparation for primary school.
Communication again is key in preparation for school: we look at different key areas and note how your child is progressing, asking both the child and the caregivers to put forward their thoughts and suggestions. All information is then packaged together and given to the child’s future school to ensure the smoothest of transitions.
Singleton ELC works closely with local primary schools: we host information nights and liaise with teachers to ensure we are providing the best start for each child according to their future teachers. We love parent/caregiver participation at our centre and at home, for instance with homework sheets that display the child’s developing confidence and include families in their learning.
We include a Jolly Phonics program to help children link sound, sight and creation of the letters of the alphabet.
As much as we recommend our school readiness program, it is non-compulsory and children and families are welcome to choose to participate at their own level.
